Tooth Colored Restoration
Tooth Colored Restorations commonly known as “white fillings” are a metal-free restorative option. They blend in with your natural tooth and they will not crack the remaining tooth structure around them – they are a fantastic option to amalgam restorations commonly known as “silver fillings”.
Tooth-colored restorations contain no mercury. They are bonded to the tooth and therefore help prevent fractures on teeth. Amalgam (silver-mercury) fillings expand and contract differently than your natural teeth do, which may crack and break the teeth they are in. Composite restorations can be contoured to the exact bite, are readily repairable, and look completely natural! Some of the drawbacks to this type of fillings is: They are much more time consuming to place and therefore, more expensive. Some insurance companies still do not pay for them or will downgrade them to an amalgam restoration benefit.
